» 10.08.2010 | Overall refurbishment – the Munich “Stachus“ building |
Central traffic junction

The Munich Stachus square is one of the city’s main landmarks and central traffic junctions. The Stachus building, one of Germany’s largest underground buildings with a total surface area of 18,000 square meters, has been splendidly refurbished. The building consists of five underground floors: a shopping center, made up of a total of 53 individual stores, is located on the first floor down; the four lower floors serve as a parking garage, a loading deck for delivering goods, service areas, and subway access areas.

New design and refurbishment of structural damage
Due to vast structural damage and outdated building services, the building needed a complete overhaul. The stores no longer met the requirements of a modern shopping center. The refurbishment was preceded by a competition which was won by Allmann Sattler Wappner Architects based in Munich.

Consulting services provided by Intep
Intep has been assisting the Munich utility company (SWM) in its responsibilities as the building contractor; the main challenge of the reconstruction project being its realization without interfering with day-to-day business. These responsibilities include controlling those involved in the design and construction of the building, project documentation, and quality assurance with view to cost-effectiveness, quality and ecology throughout all project phases. Intep’s experts are providing clear structures which allow for the systematic implementation of all tasks involved, and for continuous quality, cost and progress control throughout all project phases, thus providing effective and competent support for SWM’s project team.
